About
A breathing timer for the way you actually work
Breathcharge is a free breathing exercise timer that runs in your browser. It's made by Simon Inges, as an independent project.
Why I built it
I liked breathing apps on my phone, especially The Breathing App, but I wanted the same calm on my computer, running beside my work. I also wanted my own timings, and the quick second inhale of the physiological sigh that I knew from Whoop's breathing exercises and Andrew Huberman's podcast. I couldn't find one tool that did all of that for free, so I made it.
The idea is simple: pick or shape a breath, press start, and follow an orb and a piece of music that breathes with you. It works offline, installs to your phone's home screen and floats above your other windows.
How the science is checked
- Every claim has a source. Each guide links to the peer-reviewed studies it relies on, by DOI, and the science page covers over 20 of them.
- We say how strong the evidence is. Small studies are called small, and popular claims without support, like "asleep in 60 seconds", are called out.
- No medical claims. Breathing exercises can help you feel calmer; they don't cure or treat illness, and every guide has safety notes.
- Reviewed regularly. Guides show the date they were last checked against their sources (currently 20 October 2026).
What Breathcharge won't do
No account, no ads, no paywall, no cookies and no selling of data. Visits and sessions are only counted anonymously, like how many people started each technique, so I can see what's useful. Nothing identifies you, and your settings never leave your device. See privacy.
